Youth Cong. leader dies in road accident

JORHAT/ITANAGAR, Feb 27: All India Youth Congress Secretary and Arunachal Pradesh incharge Mridul Gogoi was killed and four others critically injured in a road accident in upper Assam’s Jorhat district in the wee hours today. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Police said the vehicle in which Gogoi and his associates were travelling hit a truck on National Highway 37 at Ladhoighar, near Jorhat town, at around 2.20 hrs.

He was on his way from Dibrugarh to Guwahati.

Other passengers in the vehicle included Gogoi's PSO, the driver and two other Congress workers. The injured were rushed to the Jorhat Civil Hospital and would be shifted to Assam Medical College and Hospital at Dibrugarh. UNI

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha  MP Takam Sanjoy has  expressed deep shock at the  tragic death of Mridul Gogoi.

His premature demise has caused irreparable loss especially for the youths of North East region. Congress Party also has lost one of the dedicated and selfless activists from the NE region in particular and the Nation as a whole, Sanjoy said.

The MP conveyed deep sense of condolence to the bereaved family of the late Gogoi and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Rank and file of Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress deeply mourned the untimely demise of Mridul Gogoi, Secretary Indian Youth Congress and In-charge of Arunachal Pradesh.

APYC prayed almighty to give enough strength to the bereaved family and for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

Press fraternity takes serious exception to assault on journalists

ITANAGAR, Feb. 27: The Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and Itanagar Press Club (IPC), in a joint meeting today, unanimously condemned the assault on a media person on duty during the Statehood day celebrations at Indira Gandhi Park.

Taking strong exception to the stoic silence of the State Government, particularly the authorities concerned, the Press fraternity expressed its strong resentment against the repeated assault and attack on press persons, which despite several written complaints boils down to no action. The concern is aggravated in view of the absence of repentance and an apology from the authority involved. Therefore, the scribes are unanimous that any such assault or attack on Press and Press persons in future, departments (government or private), organizations, Unions and NGOs to which the assaulters or attackers belongs to would be completely boycotted without warning. The extreme step has been necessitated due to complete lack of concerns for the Press fraternity by the persons involved in such incidents and their higher-ups.

 

Women benefited from 5-day health camp

ROING, Feb 27: Lower Dibang Valley District Health Society conducted a five-day free Laparoscopic Sterilization (LS) camp  at Anpum PHC  under the Dambuk sub-division in the district  from Feb 21 to 25 last.

Overall 211 women were under gone LS operation here during the Health Camp.

Despite lack of power and inaccessibility a team of doctors and  medical personnel including surgeons from Pasighat general medical conducted the health camp with a mission ‘Small and Healthy Family’, informed the DHS sources in its press release.  The team of the doctors included Dr.T Koyu Anesthesiologist, Dr. Ista Pulu Sr. Gynaecologist, General Hospital, Roing and Dr. Dilip Dutta, Gynaecologist CHC Ruksin.  

Earlier, the health camp was  inaugurated in a simple ceremony by Lod Gambo ADC (Sadar). While advising the villagers the small family, he urged them to avail the facilities available at their door step.

Dr. M Basar DRCHO briefed about the objectives of the NRHM and highlighted various health benefits under the mission for the larger interest of the hapless people of such remote place.      

Anita Payeng ZPM Dambuk also extended deep gratitude to the entire medical team for organising LS camp in spite of communication bottleneck.

 

Spirit of Lossar

DIRANG, Feb 27: The Monpa New Year or ‘Lossar’ festival was celebrated here today at the outdoor auditorium amidst traditional fervour and gaiety.

The chief patron and organizer of the event local MLA Phurpa Tsering called for imbibing spirit of brotherhoodness and unity amongst all tribes residing here. West Kameng district officials including additional deputy commissioners Rinchin Tashi, Nyabin Ette, other officials and public turned out in large number to celebrate the New Year. Cultural troupes from Tezpur, Tawang, Kalakthang and Dirang enthralled the audience to the hilt. Several traditional competitive sports events including archery and tug of war were conducted with attractive cash prizes on the occasion.

 

Nyokum Yullo celebrated

ITANAGAR, Feb 27: The annual festival of the Nyishi community “Nyokum Yullo” was celebrated at Nyapin with much fanfare, enthusiasm and religious fervor yesterday.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest Parliamentary Secretary for Food and Civil Supply Lokam Tassar suggested the people of the Palin area to find out a suitable land for setting up of Degree College Nyapin and also suggested them to constitute a committee for the purpose.

He assured to construct a prayer hall at Nyapin and urged the Tadar Tang Memorial Foundation Society to work out the modalities.

Guest of Honour, Zilla Parisad Chairperson Pisa Gunia stressing the importance of traditional costumes and dresses appealed the people to celebrate the festival wholeheartedly.

DC, Koloriang also appealed the people to preserve own culture and tradition.

At Dirang, Nyokum was celebrated with  traditional fervor.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest MLA Phurpa Tsering appealed the people to preserve its own rich cultural heritage and traditions.

Anchal Chairperson Budumba and Yeshi Tsewang attended the function as guest of honour and special guest.

The three guests donated an amount of Rs. 90000 to the organizing committee.

At old Mengio, PWD and UD Minister  Nabam Tuki and ZPM Nabam Bate attended the festival as chief Guest and Guest of Honour.

Both Tuki and Bate particularly advised the young generation to take active part in local festival celebration to revitalize it and also urged the people to preserve own tradition and custom.

The festival was also celebrated in Pakke-Kessang (E/Kameng) with state cooperative union chairman AP Kullo and APCC secretary Kamala Lingi & state VKV organizer Rupesh Mathur as the chief guest and guests of honour.

Pointing out that culture is the true identity of a society, they called for protecting and preserving the rich culture along with its values by involving the younger generation, according to ZPM BC Tok.

Upgraded Govt Sec school inaugurated

ROING, Feb 27: Roing MLA Laeta Umbrey has inaugurated the Govt. Secondary School, Mayu which is being up-graded from Middle School amidst the gathering of Panchayat leaders, public, officers, VEC members, teachers and students.

Long-felt demand of the people was fulfilled with the up-gradation of Mayu School to Secondary level, Umbrey said. As the things do not finish in upgrading the school simply, the MLA called for coordinated efforts of the elected representatives including Panchayat members, VEC members, public and teachers to make the school function well and well equipped in all respect to cater to the need of the students.

Umbrey informed that a DPR for School auditorium has already been prepared and sent for approval to the Govt. He also assured to provide fund for construction of a class room, a separate office room for Head Master, 50 pairs of bench and  desk and electrification of the entire school building with a ceiling fan provision in every class through MLALAD as demanded in a memorandum.  It is also to mention here that the MLA has already provided fund for construction of toilets in the school.

Tanyang Tatak, DDSE Roing has called upon the teachers to be sincere, punctual, dedicated and devote their energy for the welfare of the students, quoting, “If the Engineers commit mistake, it is cemented in the bricks. If Doctors commit mistake, it lies in the Graveyard. But if teachers commit mistake, the whole nation suffers”.  

He also requested the parents to share the responsibilities as 50 pc of the responsibility of their children’s education lies with them in motivating and creating a congenial environment for studies at home. He sought the support of the public particularly the Village Education Committee (VEC) members in maintaining the school infrastructure.

Kuthundu Linggi, member VEC submitted a memorandum to the Chief Guest and Kanu Pulu, Chairman VEC have presided over the meeting.

Arunachal to participate in AIKF Natl. C’Ship

ITANAGAR, Feb 27: A  15-member Karate team from Arunachal Pradesh including three officials would represent the State at 23rd Senior AIKF National Championship beginning at Chennai from March 26.

The players have been selected by Arunachal Karate Do Association selection committee on the basis of the performance in the 15th state level karate do championship held in November 2009.

 

The team:

Men: B Chettry, U Tarunchand, Yusenso Yun, Tagri Raju, Talum Moya Nikam, Tam Tapak, Nobin Jamoh, Wangcha Lowang;

Women: H Yamum, Chunnu Sangno, Rei Yadi, Y Noshi.

Officials: Sensei Likha Tara (Tean Manager), Sensei S. Deben Sharma (Team Coach), Sempai Charu Tatung (Asst. Coach).

 

Holi greetings

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu has extended his warm greetings to the nation and the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of Holi.

One-day counselling

ITANAGAR: The Apatani Career Guidance Forum (ACGF), Itanagar is organizing one-day counselling programme on March 6 at Hotel Tosum, Naharlagun for APPSC preliminary Apatani qualifiers.

The program will be attended by experts from various fields, including, Robin Hibu, first IPS officer and Millo Tago, first IFS officer from the state. The interested candidates shall be acquainted with tips to face competitive examinations during the programme.

PASIGHAT: Senior Surgical Specialist Dr. Kabang Lego formally took over the charges of DDHS (T&R) general hospital, Pasighat.
